About Me

Hi, I’m Martin Ruhland, the person behind Square a Saw.

I’m a software developer and music producer from Germany, and I’ve been exploring music since childhood. Early on in my life, I played piano and drums passionately, developing a deep love for rhythm and, especially, melody.

I got inspired to try music production by artists like Daft Punk and deadmau5 in 2010. A little later, in 2012, I launched my project, Square a Saw. While first experimenting with different sounds and techniques, I gradually honed my skills and developed my own unique musical style.

Here’s a fun fact: Two of my songs, “Lightning” and “Oxygen,” are even bundled as demo projects with the popular music production software FL Studio, showcasing my work to producers around the world (in FL Studio: Demo Projects -> Product Demos).

To this day, I continue to create and share my music with the world. It is a great joy and a good counterbalance to my work as a software developer. My mission? To spark a creative flame in others and urge them to explore their own artistic paths.

I’m excited for what lies ahead and can’t wait to share my upcoming songs with you. Stay tuned!

Insights into My Creative Process

Me while producing music When producing music, I immerse myself in the creative process, experimenting with different sounds and techniques to bring my musical ideas to life. I often try to find a good melodic basis for my compositions before building the rest of the track around it. For me, a song is a journey that evolves organically. Sometimes I start with a basic idea, and if it sparks inspiration, I quickly develop it further. Sometimes, I just play around with ideas, but no real song emerges. It’s all about enjoying the creative journey and letting inspiration guide me. What I love about producing is that it requires creative thinking, but also technical skills and attention to detail to finish a track successfully. This combination is what makes music production so interesting to me.

Me while drawing a song cover In addition to producing music, I started drawing my own song covers, which is a fun way to express my creativity visually and complement my musical work. For some newer songs, I also experimented with Blender, a 3D modeling and animation software, to create more dynamic and visually engaging song visualizations on my YouTube channel.

I hope this gives you a better understanding of my creative process and the passion I put into both my music and its visual representation.

Thank You

Thank you all for taking the time to learn more about me and my creative journey. But the really big thank you goes to all of you who have supported my music along the way.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me! 🫶
